Samantha Bequest Muskego High School, Muskego, WI. Class of 2013. Instrument: Flute/Piccolo, Director: James Beckman and Jennifer Climer. The person receiving the award this evening was an overwhelming favorite of her peers. They recognize (as do we) the impact she has had on our band program during her four years here. This person is someone who always had the best intentions and desire to make us as a program better. She was playing first chair in Wind Ensemble as a sophomore and in Jazz I (on a secondary instrument) as a Junior. She was a four year member of the pit orchestra, which is highly uncommon. This past year, she was chosen to be drum major of our marching band and was featured as a soloist at the Senior Recognition Concert. These are undoubtedly the highest honors we bestow on an individual in our program.

Clay has been a member of the W.H.S. marching band, wind ensemble, jazz band, orchestra, and has accompanied the Choir on trumpet for all four years . He was also a three time member of the C.J.M.E.A. Region two band, two time all state symphonic band member and made all state orchestra.

Alana Boyles Mountain Vista High School, Highlands Ranch, CO. Class of 2013. Instrument: Percussion, Director: Darren DeLaup. A continuing percussionist of a dozen years, Alana was heavily involved in every aspect of the performing arts department, performing as drum captain/major in marching and pep band and as section leader with symphonic band, wind ensemble, string orchestra, chamber orchestra, symphony orchestra, and at every choir concert. She ranked superior in six solo and ensemble competitions and performed in every festival and state competition. A three year honor band member and section leader in Continental League and All Colorado Honor Band, her musical talent and selfless dedication to her fellow bandmates will be greatly missed.

Miranda is a rare example of a student who seamlessly fuses natural talent and phenomenal work ethic. Miranda is a great musician but also showed great leadership by organizing a program to pair up HS musicians with 5th grade musicians, helping the young ones grow and stay with music.

Christian Dickinson Waseca Junior and Senior High School, Waseca, MN, Class of 2013. Instrument: Trombone, Director: Matt Gullickson. This year, he has served as both the trombone section leader in Symphonic Band and as the lead bone in Jazz I, and was a soloist in our 2012 marching show. Chris also writes music including a piece that Jazz I premiered at our last Spring Jazz Concert, entitled “Sump Pump Liner”.

She played contrabass clarinet in Symphonic Band and Alto Saxophone in Jazz Band and saxophone quartet. She has been a great leader to the younger students and wonderful aid to the director.

Julia was a phenomenal trombonist who participated in band at two different schools, marching with the Battle Creek Central Bearcat Band and then participating in the first marching band at St. Philip Catholic Central, after a fifty year absence of band from the school. She even filled in as drum major for the inaugural marching season at St. Phil. Julia had a positive influence on the St. Philip Band program and helped to bring spirit and pride into the band.
